Weaving Heritage, Creating New Possibilities
Arsuz Weaving Workshop
Established in March 2024 in the aftermath of the earthquakes, the Arsuz Weaving Workshop was created to preserve Hatay's weaving traditions while supporting women's social and economic empowerment.
Located within the Arsuz Community Center, the workshop brings traditional craftsmanship together with contemporary design, creating opportunities for learning, production and collaboration.

From Learning to Production
The workshop began with weaving training on eight traditional wooden looms, combining technical skills with an understanding of local textile heritage.
To date, 26 women have received training in weaving techniques, materials, and production processes. What began as a learning opportunity has developed into a collective production model, allowing participants to build skills and contribute to a growing artisanal enterprise.
The Arsuz Weaving Workshop was established through the Weaving Lives (Dokunan Hayatlar) project, supported by Sivil Toplum için Destek Vakfı (STDV) and Turkey Mozaik Foundation.
Heritage Meets Contemporary Design
Working with natural fibres such as cotton and silk, the workshop explores traditional techniques through a contemporary approach to textiles and design.
From handwoven scarves and towels to home textiles and accessories, each piece brings together craftsmanship, careful material selection and the knowledge passed down through generations.
The workshop also welcomes collaborations with designers and brands interested in artisanal production and locally rooted materials.

Women's Cooperative
Building on their training and shared experience, 13 women came together to establish the Arsuz Dokuma Women's Cooperative.
The cooperative represents an important step towards independent, collective production, giving women greater ownership of their work and opportunities to participate in economic life.
